Texas, the Lone Star state, has two main focuses of education: technical and artistic. More than 100 colleges and universities offer college courses in Texas. Although Texas is the third largest and the most populous state in the country, about half of all Texans live in or around Houston, Dallas or Fort Worth. These cities are host to a number of colleges and universities which present programs focusing on technology, agriculture, aeronautics, energy and medicine. The arts, also taught at colleges in Texas, are represented in the opera, ballet, theater and orchestra companies based in Houston. Austin, the city with more music venues than any other city in the US, is often called the Live Music Capital of the World. Of course rodeos, state fairs and chili cook-offs are well attended every year, but Austin's annual South by Southwest music and film festival is respected in the independent arts scenes across the country.
